On December 8th we
held what we hope will become the first of many Top Dog Challenges. A
hunting contest to help determine who has the best or "top" dog. There
were no divisions, flushers and pointers competed in a even playing
field. Each team, two hunters and one dog, had thirty minutes to find
and bag six pheasants in a ten to fifteen acre field.
The day proved to be a tough hunting day with very little
wind and scenting conditions were less than ideal. Out of twenty dogs
only two found their six birds in the allotted thirty minutes. In the
end the pointers had gained six of the top ten spots but the flushers
had the top two and a tie for third. The most surprising thing was
that the winner was a mixed breed dog, "Abby", which put all the pure
breeds in their place |
1. Abby 304 points (flusher)
2. Zigman 280 points (flusher)
3. Jamie 242 points (pointer)
Link 242 points (flusher)
5. Buck 230 points (pointer)
6. Megan 208 points (pointer)
7. Willy 205 points (pointer)
8. Bud 202 points (pointer)
9. Axel 187 points (pointer)
10. Jeb 170 points (pointer) |
